Bark control solution for small dogs

My dog is only small yet vibration collars don’t seem to work on her. What else can I do?

Bark Doctor gets this question a lot. We often say vibration collars can be very effective for small dogs so it can be very confusing when they don’t work, particularly after purchasing a reputable brand or pricey collar.

An important thing to consider is your dog’s individual sensitivity, and a great example is the story of Susan in Morayfield QLD, who is a professional dog groomer, and her Maltese X, Oscar. She uses electric clippers to trim him regularly and also, he is exposed to the buzzing noise all day at the salon.

When Susan came to us, she was realistic about her options and didn’t even consider anything with vibration. She opted instead for the B400 for the static option in particular. It worked out well!

In similar situations, we would also recommend you consider the ultrasonic options available. The Bark Stopper is a great alternative as it offers an automatic bark training option for barks detected within 15metres or to manually train using the nifty remote. It’s good to keep in mind that the ultrasonic emitter has a range of 21metres, so you can realistically target out of control dogs next door down assuming other conditions are also met, such as height, clearance of obstacles, consistent power.

So if you’re struggling to make a quality vibration bark collar work on your dog, think about what might have affected your dog’s sensitivity and consider alternatives.
